A solution of tin (II) chloride dihydrate (39.5 g) in conc. hydrochloric acid (30 ml) was added dropwise to the reaction liquid at an inner temperature of about 10C over 30 minutes, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. To the reaction liquid were added a solution of sodium hydroxide (75 g) in water (300 ml) and diethylether under ice cooling, and the phases were separated. The aqueous layer was extracted twice with diethylether, and after saturating the aqueous layer with sodium chloride, the aqueous layer was again extracted with diethylether. The organic layers were combined, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After filtration, 1M solution of hydrochloric acid in ethanol (50 ml) was added to the filtrate, and the mixture was stirred. The resulting solid precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with diethylether, and dried to give the title compound (5.02 g, 57%). 1H-NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6)delta: 3.81 (3H, s), 6.82 (1H, d, J = 8.8 Hz), 7.57 (1H, dd, J = 8.8, 2.9 Hz), 7.97 (1H, d, J = 2.9 Hz), 8.55-9.20 (1H, br), 10.13-10.50 (3H, br).
