Dengue Virus belongs to the Flaviviridae family and is a single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus, with four serotypes (DENV-1 to DENV-4). The virus has a spherical envelope covered with E (envelope) and prM (pre-membrane) proteins. Dengue Virus replicates primarily in host monocytes and macrophages, affecting the normal function of the immune system. It activates inflammatory responses and apoptosis signaling pathways, leading to severe clinical symptoms such as dengue hemorrhagic fever. The gene expression and mutations of the virus affect its transmissibility and pathogenicity, which are critical for the development of antiviral strategies.
