MIDA Boronates

MIDA boronates represent a novel category of reagents that hold significant potential for use in iterative Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reactions. These MIDA esters are easily handled, remain inert under anhydrous cross-coupling conditions, exhibit indefinite stability under air, and are readily deprotected under mild aqueous basic conditions. Their triumph as a new class is attributed to their unique molecular structures. Unlike the simpler ammonia borane and trimethylamine borane molecules that contain B–N bonds, MIDA esters are substantially larger, featuring an sp3- hybridized boron atom that is stabilized by two five-membered rings. This structural feature greatly enhances the boronic acid's stability, facilitating the assembly of intricate molecular structures.
