Home Chemistry Organic Building Blocks Iodides 1-Iodo-3-Nitrobenzene
These compounds have the same murcko framework: benzene, and at least 2 kinds of functional groups( —I,—NO2).
Sandmeyer Reaction: Iodobenzene can undergo a Sandmeyer reaction, where it is treated with a copper(I) salt and a source of nitrogen. This leads to the replacement of the iodine atom with a new functional group, such as an 【amine|https://www.ambeed.com/amines.html】, 【azide|https://www.ambeed.com/azides.html】, or 【cyanide|https://www.ambeed.com/nitriles.html】.
Reduction: The nitro group in nitrobenzene can be reduced to an amino group (-NH2) using reducing agents like iron and hydrochloric acid, or more commonly, using catalytic hydrogenation. This reaction produces aniline.
