The reaction mixture was partitioned between saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and ethyl acetate (4 x 50 mL). The organic layer was discarded and the aqueous layer was acidified to pH 5 and washed with ethyl acetate (2 x 50 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated to give 1H-indazole-6-carboxylic acid (4- 1) as an off-white solid. The LRMS m/z (M+H ) 163.1 found, 163.0 required.
