Abstract

I want to express my gratitude towards the countless people who have shaped me into who I am today. First, I want to thank my advisor Professor Adam J. Matzger who has shaped me into a researcher and problem solver. I believe what I have learned throughout my time in this group will transcend many aspects of my life. I also want to acknowledge my former advisor Professor Jovan Kamcev for not only instilling in me the rigor and discipline required for scientific research but encouraging me to be myself and pursue my passions. To my former lab mates Jose, Carolina, and David, thank you for welcoming me into the lab. Never have I met such a hardworking group of people who strive for excellence and genuinely care for the well-being of others. Next, I want to thank my lab mates Shelby, Andrew, Leila, and Kristen. You truly were like family to me during my time in the group and each of you generously supported me throughout my journey. I will miss all the laughter and great conversations in the break room. To Karabi, thank you for taking me under your wing and sharing with me your joy for synthesis and life. To the friends I made throughout graduate school Cecelia, Courtney, and Shannon. Each of you means so much to me and I look forward to our adventures as we transition into this next stage of life. To Carolina, your kindness and altruism is unmatched, and I will miss our weekly coffee. To the members of the campus symphony, I am so grateful to have been a part of this wonderful community. And finally, to the love of my life Billy, I am so grateful we met during this time, and I cannot thank you enough for your unwavering love and support throughout this journey and encouraging me to pursue my dreams.
