1.29 g (99%) With m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid; In methanol; dichloromethane; chloroform; A. Ethyl 6-methyl-3-pyridineacetate, N-oxide Ethyl 6-methyl-pyridineacetate (1.20 g, 6.70 mmol, 1 eq) was combined with 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (50percent, 2.77 g, 8.03 mmol, 1.2 eq) in 25 mL of CHCl3. The reaction mixture was stirred at rt for 4 h. The mixture was filtered twice through a 2 inch pad of Al2O3 eluding with 100 mL of 10percent methanol in CH2Cl2. Concentration in vacuo provided 1.29 g (99percent) of ethyl 6-methyl-3-pyridineacetate, N-oxide.
