44% With chlorosulfonic acid; In dichloromethane; at 0 - 20℃; for 3.75h; Chlorosulfonic acid (54.3 ml, 4 eq.) was added dropwise at 0° C., over a period of 45 min., to a solution of <strong>[461-97-2]1-fluoro-3,5-dimethylbenzene</strong> (25 g) in dichloromethane (250 ml). The reaction mixture was then stirred for 1 h at room temperature, and the progress of the reaction was monitored by thin-layer chromatography. The reaction mixture was poured onto ice, and the aqueous phase was extracted with dichloromethane (3.x.150 ml). The organic phase was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was then purified by column chromatography. Yield: 19.5 g (44percent), white solid.
