77% | With Celite; pyridinium chlorochromate In benzene at 85℃; for 1 h; | Added to a solution of 2.6 g (about 13 mmol) of this oil in benzene (96 ml) were 13.7 g (64 mmol) of pyridinium chlorochromate and 31.8 g of Celite, and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour at 85° C. Insoluble materials were removed from the reaction mixture by suction filtration through Celite, and the residue on Celite was washed with diethyl ether and ethyl acetate. The filtrate and washings were combined and concentrated under reduced pressure. The resultant crude oil was purified by column chromatography on silica gel, thereby obtaining 2.1 g (yield: 77percent) of 5,6-dimethoxy-3,3-dimethylindan-1-one as a colorless oil. |
