38% With sodium iodide; In acetone;Reflux; General procedure: To a stirred solution of dimesylated ethylene glycol (31, 32 or 33) (1 equiv) in dry acetone (5 mL) was added NaI (4 equiv). The reaction mixture was stirred at reflux overnight before cooled to room temperature and concentrated under reduced pressure. To the residue was added CH2Cl2 and H2O, and the aqueous phase was extracted four times with CH2Cl2. The combined organic phases were washed with satd NaCl, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude product was purified by column chromatography to afford 35, 36 or 37.
