Chemistry Heterocyclic Building Blocks Isoxazoles
Isoxazole is a drug scaffold that can be used to develop new drugs with various biological activities (e.g. anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-convulsant or anti-diabetic properties).
Isoxazoles, which are heterocycles with an N-O bond, possess aromatic properties. Due to the fragility of this bond, these heterocycles can be opened under reductive conditions. They are frequently employed as substitutes for enaminoketones or β-diketones.
Composed of nitrogen and oxygen atoms, isoxazoles form a significant category of heterocyclic compounds. They occur naturally in various products and are also synthesized for their biological applications, such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic agents, as well as for their usefulness in functional materials.
An important group of five-membered aromatic heterocycles that contain two electronegative heteroatoms, nitrogen and oxygen, in a 1,2-relationship and three regular sp2 carbon atoms are known as isoxazoles.
Isoxazoles have been shown to be capable of forming hydrogen bond donor/acceptor interactions with a range of enzymes and receptors.
